THOMASTON — Mildred B. Betts, 87, of Bath, formerly of Thomaston, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 13th at the Hillhouse. She was born in Augusta, on March 4, 1924, the daughter of Peter and Elsie ( Moore) MacLaurin. She grew up in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School class of 1942. After high school she continued her education by attending Gates Business School.

In 1943, while working at Togas, she met her soul mate, Milford Betts, and the couple was married on October 11, 1947. The next year, the couple moved to Dover-Foxcroft to raise their family. Nothing was more important to Mildred than her family. She was a true homemaker, and a fantastic cook. She was known for baking the best sugar cookies ever. Holidays, birthdays and special events were her top priority, and with 7 children it was her full time job.

Mildred was active in the PTA and Girl Scouts when her children were young. She wanted to be involved in anything that involved her family. She was also a member of the Federated Church in Thomaston and later became a member of the Senior Citizens Group.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years Milford A. Betts, four sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by 6 daughters; Susan Kelley of Bath, Marilyn Baker and her husband Phillip of Woolwich, Barbara Betts of Nobleboro, Kathryn Cassidy of Kannapolis, NC, Arlene Betts of Thomaston and her partner George Soule, Joyce Betts of Rockland, a son: Peter Betts of Thomaston, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
