WISCASSET — Ronald S. Hodgdon, 83, of Birch Point Road died Monday, December 12, 2011 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

He was born in Bath on November 28, 1928, a son of Lewis P. and Anna (Swett) Hodgdon.

He attended Wiscasset schools and graduated from Wiscasset Academy in 1946. On August 27, 1950 he married Margaret L. Leeman. He was employed as a truck driver for Checkerboard Grain in Brunswick, Barry’s Oil and Bowdoin College as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver.

He was a member of the American Legion in Wiscasset, Cattleman’s Association and a Boy Scout leader for 11 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, dogs, horses and steers. He was very involved in harness horse racing.

He was predeceased by one son, Kenneth R. Hodgdon on June 30, 1978 and son in law, Merrill C. Minzy, Jr. on December 14, 1997.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret L. Hodgdon of Wiscasset, one daughter, Ruth A. Minzy of Wiscasset, one brother, David P. Hodgdon and his wife Natalie of Wiscasset, one granddaughter, Katie L. Higgins and her husband Stephen of Wiscasset, two great grandchildren, MacKenzie L. Higgins and Mason L. Higgins and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, December 16, 2011 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Woolwich with full military honors. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the North Woolwich Methodist Church, Route 128 in Woolwich. Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln County Animal Shelter, P.O.
