BATH — Registration is now open for fine arts courses offered in Bath for the spring 2012 semester.

Dennis Unger, director of University College at Bath/ Brunswick, announced that one University of Maine at Augusta fine arts performance course and two fine arts theory courses will be offered on-site starting Jan. 9.

On-site classes are traditional three- credit courses with the instructor in the classroom. Two other fine arts theory courses will be offered via two-way videoconferencing.

Adjunct faculty James Seymour will teach on-site the UMA fine arts performance course, “DRA 151 Play Production” on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. “All aspects of production are studied as they relate to theater in general and applied in the preparation of a specific production,” a University College release states. The course culminates in a public performance prepared and presented by the class on the University College campus.

Seymour also will teach onsite the fine arts theory course, “DRA 280 Introduction to Films” on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Adjunct faculty Susan Stoddard teaches on-site the fine arts theory course “ARH 106 History of Art & Architecture II” on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Fine arts courses offered via videoconference include: UMA’s “DRA 106 Oral Communication of Literature” on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., and “DRA 389 The Films of Alfred Hitchcock” on Mondays from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Fine arts courses offered via interactive television include “ARH 106 History of Art & Architecture II” on Mondays from 4 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., and “MUS 123 Understanding Music” on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Fine arts courses offered online include UMA’s “MUS 190 Women in Western Music,” and University of Maine at Fort Kent’s “MUS College hosts special ed certification primer

BATH — People interested in becoming certified as special education teachers in Maine are invited to participate in a video conference session at University College at Bath/ Brunswick, 9 Park St., from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.

The program will feature Heather Ball, special education program coordinator at the University of Maine at Machias (UMM). Ball will discuss opportunities for special education certification available from UMM in collaboration with University College and the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA).

For those who already have a bachelor’s degree, Ball will suggest post-baccalaureate options for certification.

As part of the agreement, students would enroll in UMA’s bachelor of arts in liberal studies program while completing all of the courses — including student teaching — that are required to be fully certified by the Maine Department of Education.

Courses in the program are available online and through a variety of distance learning options.
