FREEPORT — Mary A. Bowie died Thursday afternoon December 15, 2011 at her home at Freeport Place with family at her side. She was born in Van Buren in 1927, the daughter of Willie and Alice (Roy) Parent and was educated at Sacred Heart High School in Van Buren. Before her marriage she was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. for 10 years. She married Winslow Bowie in 1953 and he predeceased her in 2007. During the years following her marriage, Mary was active in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, as well as doing volunteer religious education at Sacred Heart Church. She also worked at the switchboard at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston from 1975 to 1984. She enjoyed her grandchildren and the outdoors, being at Harpswell in the summer and skiing in the winter. She also enjoyed reading, music and playing cribbage. Mary was a member of the Golden Age Club of Sacred Heart Church.

She leaves her son Daniel Bowie of Kittery, and his partner Cindy Breton; three daughters Lisa Koenig and husband Kris of Durham, Linda Ingram and husband Steve of Cohasset, MA and Laurie Trenholm and husband John of Cape Elizabeth; six grandchildren Kendall Bowie, Andrew Bowie, Ryan Ingram, Dylan Koenig, Natalie Koenig and Sara Trenholm; three sisters Lillian Ayotte and husband Leo of Lewiston, Lorraine Gilmore and husband Earle of Lewiston and Aurora Cote of Auburn; several nieces and nephews and her extended family, the staff and residents of Freeport Place, who she dearly loved, and where she made her home the past eleven years. Those years were among the most content of her life. Mary’s family cannot begin to express their gratitude for the care, companionship and love provided to her.

Visitation were at Crosman Funeral Home on Sat. 10 AM followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 11 AM. Committal to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Lisbon Falls.
