PORTLAND — Drivers heading from South Portland to Portland early on Jan. 4 will have to use something other than the Casco Bay Bridge.
The bridge will be closed from 1 to 3 a.m. to repair a warning gate. The gate is normally used to stop traffic before crossing the bridge, but it broke during a Dec. 26 crash.
Local police will detour travelers into Portland via the Fore River Bridge or the Veterans Memorial Bridge during this period, according to a Maine Department of Transportation news release.
Motorists heading from Portland into South Portland will not be affected as both lanes will remain open. Also, marine traffic will not be affected as officials will be able to open the bridge as normal.
