BRUNSWICK — Aspiring and experienced meditators are invited to attend events offered at the Shambhala Meditation Centers in the month of January that “will guide participants to commence or reinvigorate a meditation practice,” according to a news release.

There will be an open house at the Brunswick Shambhala Meditation Center on Jan. 4 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In addition, a weekend program and a six-week class introducing the practice of sitting meditation are being offered at the centers in Brunswick and Portland.

“The Art of Being Human” is a weekend program in Brunswick from Jan. 6 to 8 that will introduce participants to the practice of meditation and the principles of the Shambhala path of warriorship. Under the guidance of Shastri (senior teacher) Frank Ryan and Susan Ryan, participants will spend the weekend learning how meditation can lead to the development of genuine confidence, humor and personal dignity within the complexity of daily life, explains the release.

The program will begin with a free public talk on Friday, Jan. 6, at 7:30 p.m., and continue Saturday and Sunday from 8: 30 a. m. to 6 p. m. Preregistration is required for the weekend, though the Friday evening talk is open to all.

The fee for the weekend program is $110. Student or need-based discounts are available for all Shambhala Center programs. Register online at www.shambhalabp.org. For more information, contact James Prentice at lowlandbear@gmail.com or 837-8431.

Preregistration is encouraged.
