RENO, Nev. – Xavier Silas scored a game-high 21 points and the Maine Red Claws won consecutive games for the first time this season with a 98-92 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA D-League Showcase at the Reno Events Center.

Silas capped a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter with a layup and a foul shot that put Maine ahead for good, 94-83. Jerome Randle, who had six assists, scored all his 11 points in the second half, including a 3-pointer during the run and a field goal in the final minute.

Ricky Davis finished with a season-high 13 points, and Kenny Hayes added 12 points for the Red Claws (6-12).

Silas had 11 points in the first quarter and gave Maine a 30-26 lead with a 3-pointer at the end of the quarter.

Davis took over in the second quarter, scoring nine points on a 3-pointer, two field goals and a pair of free throws.

The teams traded leads for much of the period. Despite missing three baskets in the final two minutes, including two 3-point attempts, Maine was able to maintain a four-point lead, 54-50, on a driving layup by Hayes as time expired.

Maine increased its lead to eight, 70-62, on a driving hook shot by Silas with 7:10 left in the third quarter. However, the Skyforce scored the next eight points to tie it at 70.

With the score tied at 74 with under two minutes left in the third, Maine took the lead on a basket by Paul Harris and two buckets by Hayes before Gabe Pruitt answered with a 3-pointer before the quarter ended.

Sioux Falls (5-13) had five players in double digits, led by Charles Garcia with 20. Pruitt, Anthony Mason and Casey Mitchell each had 15 points, followed by Trey Gilder with 14.

Maine plays its final game of the Showcase at 1 p.m. today against the Los Angeles Defenders.

 

NOTE: The Red Claws activated Harris before the game.

Harris, the team’s second leading scorer, had been waived last Thursday following the aggravation of back injury.

To make room on the roster, Durrell Summer was waived.
