Awards and Honors

Earlham College, Richmond, Ind.: Leila Hunter of Portland has been selected to The Bonner Scholars Program, a developmental leadership program that provides tuition and summer support to students who demonstrate a commitment to community service.

Downeast Energy has announced the recipients of its scholarship program. Each scholarship is for $500 per academic year. Area recipients are: Sara Adams, Lisbon; Philip Andresen, Rockland; Mitchell Craig and Laura Mills, both of Saco; Mark Davis and Margaret Webber, both of Topsham; Jenna Kiely, Freeport; Linda Masteller and Taylor Schmidt, both of Kennebunk; Jacob Ouellette and Joshua Ouellette, both from Sanford.

Maine Community Foundation, in partnership with College for ME-Androscoggin, has announced the winners of the Thomas W. Musgrave and Beulah Long Musgrave Fund Scholarships in Androscoggin County. The $1,000 scholarship provides support for tuition and fees for adult learners in an accredited program. The recipients are Julia Bowen, Lewiston, University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College; Chrystal Caron, Lewiston, Kaplan University; Steven Doyle, Auburn, Nichole Gardner, Livermore Falls, and Annissa Morgan of Lewiston, all at Central Maine Community College.

University of Vermont, Burlington: Alexandria Frechette of Sanford is one of five UVM students awarded the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship, a nationally competitive award that provides financial aid for study abroad. Frechette will study in Gabone, Botswana, for the spring semester. The Gilman program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
