WINTHROP — Jordan Jones hit a tying 3- pointer late in regulation and Wiscasset pulled ahead from there in taking a 50-43 Mountain Valley Conference boys basketball win over Winthrop on Saturday.

Jones paced the 4-5 Wolverines, who visit Lisbon on Tuesday, with 14 points and six assists. Devin Grover had nine points, Caleb Bryant and Jason Weatherbee eight, and Travis Padilla seven. Weatherbee pulled down 15 rebounds.

Wiscasset led 12-5 after a quarter, but the 2-6 Ramblers rallied to take a 19-16 halftime lead. Winthrop led 35-31 after three and maintained the lead throughout the fourth quarter until Jones tied it, 40-40, with 2:52 left.

Taylor Morang was 13 of 20 at the foul line in scoring a game- high 21 points for Winthrop, which was 13 of 22 from the charity stripe. Hunter Kilgore added eight points.

Wiscasset finished five of seven at the line.

Yuhi Sasaki scored a gamehigh 19 points as the visiting Witches ( 4- 6) dropped Mt. Ararat to 0-10 at Topsham on Friday.

Ian Burgess added 14 points for Brewer, while Zach Violette had nine. The Witches finished 15 of 23 from the foul line.

Josh Wright paced the Eagles, who host Mt. Blue today at 3: 30 p. m., with 14 points. Alex LaPierre added 10 points and DJ Cole nine. Mt. Ararat was 10 of 18 from the charity stripe.

VINALHAVEN 62

In East-West Conference action on Friday, host Vinalhaven posted quarterly leads of 18-8, 42-16 and 53-25.

Brian Stanley scored 21 in the winning effort and Steve Osgood added 17.

Ben Carver paced the Bobcats with 14 points and Kade Strout added 10.

At the foul line, Richmond was six of 14 and Vinalhaven two of nine.

In the East-West nightcap on Saturday morning, Vinalhaven led 16-5, 25-16 and 41-22 at the breaks.

Scott James led the winning effort with 14 points and Stanley added 10.

Carver scored nine for the 2-7 Bobcats, who are scheduled to visit Hyde on Tuesday, and Randy Moody added seven

Richmond was eight of 17 at the line and Vinalhaven five of 10.

Host Winslow raced out to a 49-21 halftime lead in downing the 2-7 Shipbuilders on Saturday.

Winslow ( 6- 5) jumped on top 29-8 in the first quarter, and held a 60- 33 edge after three quarters. The hosts were 25 of 42 from the foul line. Austin Ireland paced Winslow with 14 points, while Trevor Lovely added 11 and Justin Murray 10.

Ted Cole paced Morse, which hosts Maine Central Institute today at 2:30 p.m., with 17 points.
