FARMINGTON ( AP) — A lawyer for a Massachusetts man accused of fatally stabbing an 81-year-old woman in her Farmington home says his client is expected to plead not guilty.
The Kennebec Journal reports that Juan Contreras of Waltham, Mass., is scheduled to appear in Franklin County Superior Court today.
Contreras is charged with murder in connection with the June death of Grace Burton. Police say Burton was stabbed 35 times on June 21 and died at the hospital. Before she died, she managed to call 911 and give police a description of her attacker.
Contreras has been held without bail since his arrest Nov. 17 in Massachusetts. He was living in Farmington at the time of Burton’s death.
The 27-year-old Contreras was tied to the slaying through DNA.
