PORTLAND ( AP) — Two Maine natives have received federal appointments from President Barack Obama.

Portland lawyer William Kayatta Jr. was appointed Monday to fill a seat on the 1st U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals based in Boston.

The 58-year-old Kayatta was raised in South Portland and currently lives in Cape Elizabeth. He graduated from Amherst College and Harvard Law School. His appointment is subject to approval by the U.S. Senate.

Obama also nominated Pamela White as ambassador to Haiti.

White is a native of Auburn and is a graduate of the University of Maine. She is currently ambassador to the African nation of Gambia.
