ALFRED (AP) — The trial of a Limington man accused of the drug-fueled killing of his wife has started.
A York County Superior Court jury today is scheduled to begin hearing testimony in the murder trial of 41-year Patrick Dapolito.
Prosecutors say Dapolito shot his wife, Kelly Winslow, in March 2010 as they lay on the bathroom floor of their home following a night of taking cocaine and prescription painkillers.
Authorities say the couple was in an abusive relationship and Dapolito tried to cover up the killing by burying his wife’s body behind his father’s home.
Dapolito’s lawyer tells The Portland Press Herald the couple was asleep when the gun accidentally went off, killing Winslow. He says Dapolito panicked and is likely to take the stand in his own defense.
