SCARBOROUGH – The Scarborough Middle School Builders Club, the Scarborough High School Key Club, Scarborough K-Kids, Kiwanis Club of Scarborough and community volunteers are working together to raise money for local troops abroad through Operation Cupid.

Operation Cupid was started seven years ago by a group of middle school students and continues today through this volunteer effort. The program involves sending decorated bags with miscellaneous snack items, Valentine cards and gifts to Maine Reserve and National Guard soldiers deployed overseas. This year, packages will be sent to the 135 members of the Marine Corps Reserves from the 1st Battalion 25th Marines from Brunswick, now in Afghanistan.

The clubs are seeking donations through the end of January. The groups will be assembling bags Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Scarborough Middle School cafeteria.

Checks should be made out to Scarborough Middle School and mailed to: Operation Cupid: Scarborough Middle School, 21 Quentin Drive, Scarborough, ME 04074. The names of those that donate $5 or more will be listed in a local paper. For more information, contact Tom Griffin at tgriffi@scarborough.k12.us.me or 730-4829; or Jim Damicis at jdamicis@maine.rr.com or 883-3643.
