BRUNSWICK — A building at 16-18 Oak St. was demolished Wednesday almost 10 months after a fire swepth through the building on April 8, 2011.
Jeffrey Matthews owns the property at 16-18 Oak St., which has been uninhabitable since the April fire.
The fire displaced 19 residents of the apartment building.
“I struggle with having to tear the building down,” Matthews told The Times Record in November 2011. “I don’t have to, but with where the economy is, a new building won’t be worth what I put into it.”
Matthews said estimators set the cost to repair the building at $750,000, although the amount he received from his insurance company “is way below that.”
