BRUNSWICK — Maine State Music Theatre plans to host a Valentine’s Benefit Concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11. The evening will begin with desserts and cocktails served at Bowdoin College’s Moulton Union and includes a concert and auction held at Studzinski Hall.

The concert features MSMT veteran actor Gregg Goodbrod, and a professional actress from the thriving Philadelphia theater scene, Denise Whelan.

Whelan and Goodbrod will star together in a production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning musical “Sunset Boulevard” this summer at MSMT.

The concert features music from the acclaimed score, as well as other Broadway love songs.

Tickets cost $100 per person and can be purchased by calling 725-8760 extension 15. All proceeds from the concert and auction support MSMT’s summer internship program.

In past MSMT productions, Goodbrod portrayed Jesus of Nazareth in “Jesus Christ Superstar,” Radames in “Aida,” Chris in “Miss Saigon” and Ethan in “The Full Monty.”

Denise Whelan is making her MSMT debut as Norma Desmond in “Sunset Boulevard.” She has an extensive career in musical theater stemming from a vibrant arts community in the greater Philadelphia area. She is a regular performer at the Walnut Street Theatre and the Arden Theatre, and most recently completed a run as Velma Von Tussle in a production of “Hairspray” at the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, Pa.

The Feb. 11 event will be Whelan’s first time performing to a Maine audience.

Season tickets to MSMT’s 2012 summer season are available now by calling the MSMT box office at 725-8769. Single tickets to individual shows as well as MSMT’s children’s musicals and special concert events go on sale May 2.
