FRYEBURG — Nina Davenport had 18 points and Leigh Wyman added 17 as the Freeport High School girls basketball team ended a sixgame losing streak with a 59- 48 Western Maine Conference victory over Fryeburg Academy on Tuesday.

“We were hot in the first half, making six 3-pointers,” said Freeport (6-9) coach Jen Chon, whose team will visit Traip Academy on Friday. “We led 46-21 after three periods, and I was able to get my bench into the game. But, I had to bring the starters back in late in the fourth when Fryeburg made a run. This is a good win for us and one that we needed.”

Freeport is currently 12th in Western Maine Class B, the final playoff spot.

The Falcons jumped out to a 14-4 lead after a quarter and outscored the Raiders 21-7 in the second for a 35-11 halftime lead.

Davenport added five rebounds, four assists and three steals to her totals, while Wyman pulled down six caroms, had four steals and three helpers. Aubrey Pennell chipped in six points and Morgan Brown had five. The Falcons were 13 of 20 from the charity stripe.

Skye Dole led Fryeburg with 21 points. The Raiders were 21 of 26 at the line.

RICHMOND 53
VALLEY 24

Danica Hurley nailed four 3-pointers to finish with 15 points as the Bobcats improved to 12-1 with an East- West Conference victory.

Payton Johnson chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds, while Alyssa Pearson and Ciarra Lancaster both had eight points. Pearson led Richmond with 10 caroms, and the Bobcats finished 14 of 23 at the foul line.

Teegan Lawyerson and Hali McQuilkin had eight points each for 4- 12 Valley, which was seven of 21 at the charity stripe.

Richmond is slated to host Hyde on Friday.

MT. ARARAT 33
SKOWHEGAN 29

In a defensive struggle, Mt. Ararat improved to 10-5 Tuesday with an Eastern Maine Class A win over Skowhegan.

Mallory Nelson had 10 points, four rebounds and four steals for the Eagles, who are scheduled to host unbeaten Cony (15-0) on Friday.

Leah Hitchcock chipped in with nine points and six rebounds, Caitlin LaFountain five points and a like number of rebounds, and Kristi Willey four points and five caroms,

Amanda Johnson had 15 points for the 10-5 Indians, who trailed 7-5, 13-11 and 24-19 at the quarter breaks.

Mt. Ararat was 10 of 43 from the field and 10 of 13 from the foul line, while the hosts went 12 of 46 from the floor and three of eight at the line.

ST. DOM’S 45
WISCASSET 33

In Mountain Valley Conference play, St. Dom’s ran out to an 18-6 first-quarter advantage en route to the win.

St. Dom’s posted quarterly leads of 18-6, 29-14 and 37-21 in beating the 2-13 Wolverines, who are scheduled to visit Madison on Friday.

“Mary Caron got to the rim effectively in the first quarter,” said Wiscasset coach Patrick Quinn. “ Wiscasset closed strong, but came up short against a hard-working St. Dom’s team.”

Kayla Connors paced Wiscasset with 12 points and a dozen rebounds, while Briana Goud had 11 points.

Caron finished up with 14 points for St. Dom’s, now 5-9.

MORSE 58
LIN. ACADEMY 33

In Class B action Monday, Morse ran out to a 20-6 firstquarter lead and never looked back in improving to 7-8.

Morse led 20-6, 31-11 and 50- 24 at the breaks.

Katie Henrikson hit two 3- pointers and finished with 22 points, while Tory Field (two 3-pointers) also had 17 points, and Kerry Cummings and Sadie Crosby chipped in with six each.

At the foul line, Morse was 21 of 29 and the hosts nine of 18.

Henrikson also added six rebounds and four steals, Field five steals, Cummings four steals, Crosby eight rebounds and Leia Graves five caroms.

Morse is scheduled to host Gardiner on Friday.
