PHIPPSBURG — Singer and folklorist Jeff Warner will perform in concert at the Phippsburg Congregational Church at 7: 30 p.m. Feb. 10. He will be accompanied by singer Barbara Benn.

The son of legendary song collectors, Anne and Frank Warner, who discovered such classics as “ He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands” and “Tom Dooley,” Warner has carried on the tradition of connecting contemporary audiences with the music and everyday lives of 19th century people.

His repertoire draws on musical traditions from the Outer Banks fishing villages of North Carolina, to the lumber camps of the Adirondack Mountains and the whaling ports of New England. He plays concertina, banjo, guitar and several “ pocket” instruments, including bones and spoons.

Warner’s recordings include albums for Flying Fish/ Rounder and other labels. His 1995 recording “Two Little Boys: More Old Time Songs for Kids,” received a Parents’ Choice Award.

He is the editor of “Traditional American Folk Songs: From the Anne and Frank Warner Collection” and producer of the CD set “ Her Bright Smile Haunts Me Still: The Warner Collection.”

A native of New York City, Warner has lived in Portsmouth, N.H., since the late 1990s. Producer of the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival, Warner is also past president of the Country Dance and Song Society and a past officer of the North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance.
