To the editor:
Apparently people really like doughnuts. At least that’s what the constant line out of Frosty’s Donuts on Saturday would suggest.
People also like newness, tradition and hope. I stood in line Saturday morning and secured the last jelly, two twists and two chocolate frosted.
That’s right, they ran out with a line stretching out the door. That’s when Frosty’s new co-owner Nels Omdal, covered in flour and frosting, came out from the back and made his announcement to the crowd.
What happened next was a bit surprising: The crowd clapped and cheered — perhaps cheering for the revival of a town landmark and the chance at constancy in an ever-changing downtown.
But I believe the cheers were for a young couple who has taken a very big risk in a precarious economic time.
We were cheering for a family that is starting over, cheering for hope.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
