Families involved in the SAIL into Literacy program gathered at Dike- Newell Elementary School in Bath on Jan. 31 for a family literacy event featuring dinner and a time to read together. SAIL into Literacy, a collaboration of Regional School Unit 1 Adult Education, Bath Regional Career and Technical Center and Dike-Newell Elementary School, is funded through a Barbara Bush grant.

In the program, parents pursuing a GED (general educational development) or who need support to get into college work with an adult education instructor while their child participates in literacy activities with students involved in the BRCTC early childhood program.

On Jan. 31, families shared dinner and reading time, and then enjoyed story time with Sue Barker of the Read With Me program, who also distributed books for the children to take home.
