BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College senior defenseman Jordan Lalor has been named as a semifinalist for the 2012 Joe Concannon Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England playing at the NCAA Division D-II/III level.

Lalor is enjoying his finest season as a Polar Bear, ranking second on the team with 27 points on eight goals and 19 assists. A playmaker on both ends of the ice, Lalor leads the New England Small College Athletic Conference and is third in Division III among defenseman with 1.23 points per contest. He also keyed Bowdoin’s lethal power play by scoring a team- best 10 points with the extra attacker this winter. In 95 career games, Lalor has scored 23 goals with 43 assists.

Bowdoin has twice had a player named winner of the Concannon award, as Mike Carosi took home the honor in 2002 and Adam Dann in 2006.

Presented by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston, the Joe Concannon Award was established in 2001 to honor Joe, a lifelong devotee of college hockey, former member of the Walter Brown Award Selection Committee and, as a journalist, a staunch advocate for the amateur athletes he knew and covered.

The Gridiron Club plans to announce the finalists and winner of the 12th Joe Concannon Award in March, prior to the start of NCAA Frozen Four Tournament play and present the award during the New England Hockey Writers dinner in mid-April.

Lalor and the Polar Bears will return to the ice in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on Saturday at 4 p. m. against Trinity at Sidney J. Watson Arena.
