BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin sophomore goaltender Steve Messina has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Messina propelled the Polar Bears into the NESCAC semifinals by making 31 saves during his team’s 2-1 victory over Trinity on Saturday (.969).

After allowing the game’s first goal just 1:54 into the contest, Messina shut down the Bantams for the final 58:06 as he held the Bantams scoreless on six power play chances and stopped 23 shots over the final two periods.

The victory improved Messina to 10-4-1 this season with a .904 save percentage and 2.73 goals against average. The sophomore netminder improved to 4-0 alltime in NESCAC Tournament play with a .950 save percentage and 1.31 goals-against-average in his career.
