ST. AUGUSTINE, FL — Benjamin Munroe Burr, 89, St. Augustine, died February 28, 2012 at the Glenmoor Health Center at World Golf Village.

He was born May 20, 1922 in New York City, son of the late George and Priscilla Burr. He had resided in St. Augustine since 2005, moving from Stuart, FL. He was a member of San Sebastian Catholic Church.

Ben was a devoted husband, father, and friend, and he is missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. He attended Milton Academy and graduated from Harvard University, Class of 1945. Ben served in the U.S. Marines in World War II, and fought in the Pacific theater. He was later recalled to service at Paris Island, S. C. to train Marines for combat in Korea. Ben worked as a marketing executive for DuPont and Hercules Chemical Company. He enjoyed boating, travel, and spending time with his family.

A memorial service is planned at the Glenmoor Chapel at a later date. Ben will be interred with his recently departed wife, Ginny, May 5th at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown, N.Y.

He is survived two daughters, Pam Smith, Brunswick, Maine, Sarah Burr (Timothy Lewis), Brooklyn, NY; son, John E. Burr (Karen Koster Burr), Jacksonville; and two grandchildren, Emily Burr, Princeton, N.J., and Ian Burr, Jacksonville. A second son, Benjamin Jr., died in 2004.

St. Johns Family Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
