To the editor:
Helen Small’s March 2 local commentary on equal rights versus marriage (“ Equal rights, yes: Just don’t call it ‘ marriage’”) was 100 percent on target.
God ordained marriage as a physical union between a man and a woman. It is blessed by God.
The joining together of gays or lesbians is not and never will be blessed by God. In scripture, it is an abomination to him.
A pastor recently spoke in support of gay marriage. He apparently does not know what the Bible teaches or knows what it teaches and chooses to disregard the biblical teaching.
Call it “civil union” because it is not and never will qualify in God ’s eyes as marriage. I applaud the Catholic faith on their stand for what constitutes marriage.
Maine has voted “no” twice. What part of “no” do gays and lesbians not understand? No means no.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
