BRUNSWICK
The Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference All- star teams for wrestling, ice hockey, cheerleading and indoor track have been announced.
In Class A swimming, Dave Bright of Brunswick High School was named Boys Coach of the Year, while Tom Sheridan of Messalonskee collected the girls award.
Male Swimmer of the Meet was Brunswick’s Joey Blair, while teammate Jessica Russell was named Female Swimmer of the Meet. Each won their respective 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly events.
“Joey and Jessica — both have a great work ethic, they are both outstanding students in top level classes which requires them to have the ability to manage time and meet all their commitments,” lauded Bright. “They have a strong background, coming up through the Long Reach program and have impressive versatility, being able to compete and excel in any event on the program.
“As with most all successful swimmers, they have the ability to set fairly long- range goals and understand that what they do in practice every day determines whether they reach those goals.
“They like the challenge of racing and are often at their best in a relay situation when their teammates are counting on them.”
