The fifth-ranked Polar Bears (2-0) recorded their highest single-game goal total since scoring 23 against the University of Southern Maine on March 29, 2009, and have won their last 10 home games dating back to last season.
Wheaton fell to 1-1.
Carolyn Gorajek’s seven points led the way for Bowdoin as the junior attacker netted three goals with four assists and scooped five groundballs. Elizabeth Clegg had four goals and an assist, while Celeste Swain and Mackenzie Schleicher had three scores each, and Taylor Wilson two goals, two assists, four groundballs and three draw controls.
Hailey Colburn scored twice to lead the Lyons.
Gorajek scored twice and assisted on three other goals as the Polar Bears jumped out to the 6-0 lead. Wheaton scored, but Bowdoin reeled off seven unanswered goals to end the first half with a 13-1 lead, and scored the first five of the second half for an insurmontable 18-1 edge.
Bowdoin goaltender Tara Connolly allowed one goal and made one save in 34:45 for Bowdoin before giving way to Isabel Sippel, who permitted three goals in the final 25:15 for the Polar Bears.
Katy Ananian made seven saves in 30:24 for Wheaton, allowing 13 tallies. Stephanie Hoomis played 29:23 between the pipes for the Lyons, making one save and allowing nine goals.
The Polar Bears held a 34-5 advantage in shots and earned 32 groundballs to 14 for Wheaton. Bowdoin also forced 26 Wheaton turnovers.
Men’s lacrosse
Bowdoin went to Clermont, Fla., and rolled to a 14-7 victory over Nazareth on Wednesday.
The Polar Bears, ranked 15th in the latest USILA Division III poll, improved to 2-0 this spring, while the Golden Flyers dropped to 2-2 overall.
Keegan Melhorn scored three times for Bowdoin, while Nathan Fritts, Mark Flibotte and Tyler Williams each scored twice. Fritts also had a pair of assists.
Senior C.J. Estes scored three goals and added two assists for Nazareth.
Chris Williamson had eight saves for the Polar Bears. Junior Tim Doyle played all 60 minutes in goal for Nazareth and made 12 saves.
Men’s tennis
Bowdoin opened its California swing by going 1-2 in its first three matches at Pomona.
Facing three ranked teams, the 14th-ranked Polar Bears took a 7-2 victory over No. 16 Carnegie Mellon on Monday to give coach Conor Smith his first victory at Bowdoin.
The Polar Bears followed the win with losses to No. 11 Trinity (Texas) on Tuesday, 7-2, and No. 6 Kenyon on Wednesday, 6-3.
Looking good in the early going for Bowdoin were the No. 1 doubles duo of Sam King and Oscar Pena, who earned wins against Carnegie Mellon and Kenyon. Pena also picked up a pair of singles wins, earning a point at No. 3 against Carnegie Mellon and at No. 2 against Trinity.
Casey Grindon and Chris Lord also took a pair of victories at No. 4 and 5, respectively, in Bowdoin’s first three matches.
Bowdoin will return to the court today at the Stag-Hen Invitational in Claremont, Calif. The Polar Bears were to open tournament play against 10th-ranked Washington University at 1 p.m.
