STANDISH — A single-family home in Standish was destroyed by fire early this morning.

One of three adults who were staying at the home of Arvilla Nason, at 166 Harmon’s Hill Road, woke to the smell of smoke and roused the other two occupants, said Standish Fire Chief Brent Libby.

The three fled the house and called the fire department from a neighbor’s. A family dog also got out OK.

Firefighters arrived in 15 minutes but the fire was already consuming the house, which is the last one on a two-mile dead-end road, Libby said.

Water had to be trucked in to the scene and the fire was brought under control at 4:15 a.m.

Firefighters from Gorham, Windham, Buxton, Limington, Sebago and Baldwin assisted, Libby said. None of the firefighters was hurt.
