Public meeting ?on Windham park

A public meeting to review and discuss conceptual plans for the Donnabeth Lippman Park, will be held Thursday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m., at Town Hall Council Chambers.

The three conceptual plans were developed with ideas from prior public meetings and an online park survey. The Donnabeth Lippman Park, formerly known as the Chaffin Pond Preserve, is a 123-acre piece of town property off Route 302 in North Windham. For more information, call 892-1905.

Old-timers will remember Harvey Heelm who graduated from Windham High School many years ago and always attended Alumni Banquet. He is now at Mt. Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor and enjoys hearing from former classmates via a note and/or a card.

Sally Breen brightened our lives and opened our eyes with her columns in this paper. She is recovering from a serious bout with cancer, is doing well and enjoys hearing from her Windham friends: Sally A. Breen, 12190 County Road 1206, Tyler, TX 75703-6710. Say hello to her husband, too – Keith Williams. If all goes well, they will return to Windham this spring.

Church supper

A public supper will be held at Windham Hill United Church of Christ Saturday, March 24, 5-6:30 p.m. Menu: corned beef, cabbage, turnip, carrots, mashed potato and soda bread. Dessert is make-your-own ice cream sundae. $8 for adults, $5 for children under 12.

VFW meeting change

VFW Post 10643 will hold a very special meeting to install the new Post Commander and Officers on Sunday, March 25, at 1 p.m., at Gilbert’s Chowder House, Windham.

Help for veterans

Veteran’s Service Officer Phyllis D’Orsay is available to meet with veterans, their widows or dependents to discuss veteran’s benefits on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, 9 a.m.-noon, at the Windham Veterans Center, North Windham. She will be there on March 28, April 11 and April 25. Walk-ins welcome.

Tax Savings

Apply by April 1 at Windham Assessor’s Office (894-5960, ext. 3) for partial property tax exemptions for veterans, veterans estates held by widows, widowers, parents or minor children; homestead exemption or the exemption for those who are legally blind. Gardeners take heed

Cinderella at Windham Center Stage

“Cinderella,” a musical presented by Windham Center Stage Theater, 8 School Road, Windham features 75 local children. Showtime runs through March 25. 7 p. m. Fridays, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays. All seats reserved. Tickets range from $5 to $10. Call 893-2098.

Pastor Dana Reed, captain, USN Reserve, gets the cabbage-cutting task in preparation for a great dinner. Everyone was Irish on St. Patrick’s Day at Windham Veterans Center,  where the local American Legion Post members all pulled KP duty.
