BRUNSWICK — “The Light is On for You,” an initiative of the Roman Catholic Church, “highlights the importance of receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation (penance/confession), the source of God’s mercy and healing love, in the life of Catholics,” states a news release.
The Portland Diocese makes the practice more available during the Lenten season by opening the doors of its churches in hopes that every Catholic, active or inactive, current or former, will accept this special invitation to experience Christ’s love in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, according to the release.
Local churches in the Midcoast region from All Saints Parish will be joining other Roman Catholic churches throughout the diocese in this initiative to make the Sacrament of Reconciliation available to all those who wish to the receive the healing power of God.
The churches of All Saints Parish will be open from 6 to 7 p.m. for the sacrament on the following days:
— Monday at St. John the Baptist Church, 35 Pleasant St., Brunswick;
— Tuesday at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 82 Atlantic Ave., Boothbay Harbor, and St. Ambrose Church, 29 Kimball St., Richmond;
— Wednesday at St. Mary Church, 144 Lincoln St., Bath;
— Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 132 McKeen St., Brunswick;
— Friday, March 30, St. Patrick Church, 380 Academy Hill Road, Newcastle.
One or more priests will be available at each location.
The sacrament will also be available at the regularly scheduled times, 3 to 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, at St. John the Baptist Church, St. Mary Church, and up to 15 minutes before any Mass or after Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace and St. Patrick Church, or by making an appointment with the priest.
