BRUNSWICK — Shambhala Meditation Center at 19 Mason St. will offer a sevenweek class featuring video talks given by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche on art and aesthetics along with contemplative arts demonstrations and discussion.

The class will meet Monday nights from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning April 9.

“Visual Dharma” is a series of talks given by the Tibetan Buddhist meditation master, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1978 at Naropa University in Boulder, Colo. Many of his talks on art and meditation have been collected in the book, “True Perception.”

“ Not only was he a Buddhist teacher, he was also a calligrapher, photographer, poet, film maker and Ikebana master who taught that genuine art tells the truth and has the power to wake up both the maker and the viewer,” states a news release. “His teachings were influential for artists such as Allen Ginsburg ( who was in the audience of these talks), Meredith Monk, Alice Walker, David Bowie and Joni Mitchell.”

This series of talks and demonstrations concern the artist’s state of mind and how to bring the view of basic goodness to art’s practice and appreciation through nonaggression. The class will include live demonstrations of Ikebana, calligraphy and object arranging, as well as discussion and awareness exercises.

The program is co-led by Julia Huttel and Rebekah Younger. The course fee is $30. For more information, contact Younger at rtyounger@comcast.net or 443- 8649. Register online at www.shambhalabp.org.
