MONMOUTH — The Bath Middle School wrestling team made program history Saturday by winning the Pine Tree League West Regional at Monmouth Academy.

Bath will send a whopping 10 wrestlers to the state meet, scheduled to be held next Saturday at the Bath Middle School gym. Topfour places in both regions advanced.

Bath compiled 164 points to outdistance Mountain Valley of the Rumford area (147.50), Dirigo (115), SAWALI of Oak Hill (92.5), Mt. Ararat (81), Oxford Hills (73.50), Gardiner (71), Augusta (70), Monmouth (67), Sugg of Lisbon Falls (45), Brunswick (33), Edward Little of Auburn ( 15.50) and Freeport (8).

“I really didn’t think we’d be sending that many wrestlers to states,” said Bath coach AJ Reno. “From what I hear, this is the first time that a Bath Middle or a Bath Rec. team has won the regionals, although I believe they have finished second in the past.”

In the Bath effort, picking up first places were Zach Fifield at 131, Justin Johnson at 138, Raz Baltazar at 155 and Justin Trottier at 170. Also finishing in the top-four for Bath were Jeff Leighton at 103 (fourth), Hunter Reed at 124 (fourth), Henry Geoffrion at 145 (third), Bailey Paige-Nichols at 190 (second), Spencer Wodatch at 210 (second) and Andre Douglas at 240 (fourth).

Mt. Ararat is sending five wrestlers, led by first-place finishers Robert Heatherman (124), John Heatherman (145) and John Stinson (210). Others placing included Damian Grubb at 89 (third) and Jason Williams at 131 (third).

Brunswick’s Christian Jensen took second at 89 and teammate Jackson Gordon placed third at 96.

Sugg’s Xavier Adams (fourth at 82), Henry Adams (second at 131) and Ian Arsenault ( fourth at 138) also advanced, as did Freeport’s Josh Burke (fourth at 117).

Alternates include Sydney McCarron of Bath at 75, Andrew Patenaude of Sugg at 103 and Ryan Mello of Mt. Ararat at 110.
