LEWISTON – Rob Highland scored five goals Wednesday to lead Bates to an 11-5 victory, its first win in men’s lacrosse over Bowdoin since 2007.
Kevin Helm caused four turnovers and had four ground balls for Bates (4-5, 2-4 NESCAC), which led 5-2 at the half.
Patrick Lawlor had a goal and an assist for Bowdoin (7-2, 4-2).
LASELL 16, ST. JOSEPH’S 4: Dylan Gray had four goals and four assists for the Lasers (6-4, 4-0 GNAC), who took an 8-0 lead over the Monks (5-7, 3-1) at Newton, Mass.
Andrew Hamill had a goal and an assist for St. Joseph’s.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
BOWDOIN 14, USM 3: Carolyn Gorajek and Jordan Smith scored three goals apiece to lead the Polar Bears (6-3) past the Huskies (4-6) at Gorham.
Rosie Forster, Jenna Cyr and Samantha Purcell scored for Southern Maine.
BASEBALL
NORTHERN ESSEX CC 12, SMCC 3: Donnie Cray went 3 for 4 with a home run for Southern Maine CC (13-10-1) in a loss to Northern Essex CC at South Portland.
ENDICOTT 10, BATES 7: Colin Sitarz went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and three RBI, and Conor Ressel hit a go-ahead two-run triple in the fourth to help the Gulls (11-12) down the Bobcats (11-8) at Beverly, Mass.
Endicott scored four in the fourth to go up 7-4, then tacked on three more in the fifth.
Griff Tewksbury was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI for Bates. Steve Burke added three hits.
MAINE 7, HUSSON 2: Tyler Patzalek drove in three runs to help the Black Bears (12-14) down the Eagles (7-10) at Orono.
Ian Leisenheimer scored three times for Maine. Fran Whitten struck out six and allowed two unearned runs on two hits to earn the win.
ST. JOSEPH’S 7, USM 6: Lincoln Sanborn hit a two-run triple and Brandon Chase followed with a two-run homer as the Monks (17-2) took a 5-4 lead in the fourth, then held off the Huskies (9-9) at Standish.
St. Joseph’s tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh on RBI doubles by Chase and Nic Lops. Southern Maine got two back in the eighth on a home run by Jake Glauser.
SOFTBALL
HUSSON SWEEPS USM: Becca McCarty went 3 for 5 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI, and pitched a complete game in the opener to help the Eagles (12-7) earn 7-2 and 17-0 wins over the Huskies (0-14) at Gorham.
Kody Lyon pitched a three-hitter in five innings in the second game.
BATES SWEEPS MAINE MARITIME: Leah Maciejewski went 6 for 6 with a double and nine RBI to lead the Bobcats (7-6) to 8-0 and 9-1 wins over the Mariners (7-7) in two five-inning games at Lewiston.
Kristen Finn struck out four in a three-hit shutout in the opener. Kelsey Freedman pitched a two-hitter for Bates in the late game.
UNE-EASTERN NAZARENE SPLITS: The Nor’easters (10-6, 4-2 Commonwealth Coast) scored nine runs in the third inning to take a 9-1 win over the Lions (7-17, 3-17) in the late game and split a doubleheader at Biddeford.
Gabrielle Laroche hit a two-run single to help spark the rally.
Eastern Nazarene took the opener 3-0 in eight innings. Kori Sorensen singled home the go-ahead run and Carissa Cicolini added a two-run single. Sorensen struck out 10 and allowed four hits for the win.
