PORTLAND — The Reading Phillies (4-0) picked up three runs in the fourth and never looked back en route to a 4-1 Eastern League win, and series sweep over the Portland Sea Dogs (0-4) on Saturday night at First Energy Stadium in Reading, Penn.
Sea Dogs’ starter Chris Hernandez began his first Double- A outing with three scoreless innings before running into trouble in the fourth. The lefty issued two walks to begin the frame and Reading did not waste the opportunity. Sebastian Valle followed with a single to right. On the single Bryce Brentz threw the ball away and allowed the runner at third to score. Leandro Castro followed with an RBI single, and Tim Kennelly capped off the inning with an RBI single.
The Sea Dogs had Easter Sunday off and traveled to Trenton to take on the Thunder tonight at 7:05 p.m. The Sea Dogs will send righthanded pitcher Billy Buckner (0-0) to the mound.
