AUGUSTA ( AP) — An Augusta man has been charged with fatally stabbing his roommate in June.
In an indictment unsealed Monday, 40-year-old Michael Thomas Young was charged with murder in the death of David Cox.
Young called police on June 11 to say Cox was dead in the apartment they shared, but he was not initially charged with the stabbing.
Cox, an Army veteran, was reportedly stabbed in the chest. The men had lived in Augusta for about two years, and neighbors said they heard the men argue frequently.
The Kennebec Journal reports that Young was arrested last week in Key West, Fla. hiding in a shower at a trailer park. He is being held there pending extradition.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
