Work on the Edward T. Gignoux United States Courthouse in Portland, shown here on Tuesday, has advanced to another stage. The $4.5 million project involves exterior building improvements, including restoration of the granite exterior, roof systems and below-grade waterproofing, including on the section shown above. Upgraded window glazing, partial replacement of sprinkler piping and courtyard waterproofing are also part of the project. The capital improvements are expected to increase the building’s energy efficiency. The work began in October and is expected to be done in late 2013. The courthouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1911, and an addition was constructed in 1931-32.
