ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien says it’s “ludicrous” to think the Bruins would target the head of Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom, who missed half the season with a concussion.
Asked Wednesday for his reaction to Washington coach Dale Hunter’s charge the Bruins were “crossing the line” by going after Backstrom during the teams’ first- round playoff series, Julien said: “I don’t know any coach that would tell his team to go after somebody’s head.”
Julien added: “ We’re not whining about the referees.”
Backstrom will miss tonight’s Game 4 after being suspended for a cross-check of Rich Peverley at the end of Game 3, a play the Capitals player said “was stupid on my part.” Hunter says Backstrom was trying to protect himself.
The Bruins leads the bestof seven first round series two games to one.
