BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College women’s tennis team won two of three home matches this past weekend, taking wins over Hamilton and 19th-ranked Wellesley, but falling to third-ranked Amherst.
The 10th-ranked Polar Bears improved to 9-6 (4-2 NESCAC) this spring.
Bowdoin opened with an 8-1 setback to Amherst on Friday, as Kate Winingham accounted for the lone Polar Bear point with a win at No. 2 singles.
The Polar Bears rebounded with a pair of impressive wins on Saturday, 7-2 over Wellesley and 6-0 over Hamilton.
Down 2-1 after doubles play to Wellesley, Bowdoin swept all six singles matches to rally for the victory. The Polar Bears did not lose a set in singles action against the Blue, as Kellen Alberstone, Winingham, Emily Lombardi, Emma Lewis, Susanna Howard and Hannah Hoerner each took wins. Lewis teamed with Emma Chow to earn Bowdoin’s point in doubles play at No. 2.
The doubles teams of Alberstone/ Winingham (8-0), Lewis/Howard (8-1) and Lombardi/ Hoerner (8-1) put Bowdoin in great position heading into singles play. The Polar Bears earned straight-set singles wins from Lewis (No. 3), Hoerner (No. 5) and Chow (No. 6) to clinch the win..
