PORTLAND (AP) — Two Occupy groups are joining organized labor activists for a May Day rally in Portland.
Occupy Maine, Occupy University of Southern Maine and the Maine AFL-CIO plan to gather in Congress Square today. Cosponsors of the event include the Southern Maine Labor Council and the Southern Maine Workers’ Center.
Occupy USM will stage a walk-out to draw attention to the issue of student debt. The group will march to Congress Square to meet with the other groups for a rally. Occupy Maine’s rally will include community speakers, street theater, a soap box and celebratory activities marking international workers’ day.
