WISCASSET — Avalon Antiques Marketplace on Route 1 in Wiscasset has been listed as one of the “10 Favorite Antiques Stores, Flea Markets and Salvage Shops” in the just released 2012 issue of Yankee Magazine’s “Best of New England” publication.

Yankee writer Rachel Slade interviewed photographer Lynn Karlin, who listed Avalon Antiques among the favorite Maine antiques shops from which she furnished her vacation home.

The Yankee listing has special significance for Avalon owners Bill and Pam Belmore, because the shop celebrates its 10th anniversary in June. Occupied by close to 100 antiques dealers, Avalon was “quickly accepted as a quality shop,” the Belmores said, doing $1 million in sales in its first 15 months of operation. Thirty-five of the original dealers who joined Avalon 10 years ago at its opening continue to display and sell there, according to a news release.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary, Avalon is having a storewide sale from June 9 through 17 with discounts from 10 to 50 percent. The store’s summer hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning on June 1. Avalon is open seven days a week. On Memorial Day weekend, dealers will have an outdoor antiques show and sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, followed by a parking lot yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 27.

Avalon’s more than 11,000 square feet of floor space is filled with furnishings bought from private homes or auctions. In addition to furniture from country to formal, the store also has large selections of pottery, silver, jewelry, books, early tools, nautical items, paintings and prints, glass, and collectibles.

Avalon is located at 536 Bath Road (Route 1), in Wiscasset. Until June 1, the hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.
