WISCASSET — James Andretta’s second hit scored Brandon Bailey from second base as the Wiscasset High School baseball team slipped past St. Dom’s, 2-1, in a nineinning affair for a big Mountain Valley Conference win on Wednesday.
The Wolverines won their third straight contest to improve to 3-2, with a visit to Mt. Abram slated for today. The Saints are 5-2.
“We had no errors in the field today, which is a big thing for us if we want to have success,” said Wiscasset coach Todd Souza. “In our first couple games, we stunk up the place with errors. Over the past two games, we have done much better and it shows in the results.”
St. Dom’s jumped on top 1-0 in the third inning, but Wiscasset battled back to tie things in the sixth.
Andretta singled and later scored on an RBI single by Zach Ellison.
Wiscasset pitcher Jason Weatherbee pitched the first eight innings, allowing two hits, three walks and striking out 10. Ellison relieved in the ninth, issuing a walk and permitting a single.
St. Dom’s hurler Jimmy Theriault went the distance and took the loss.
Cory Hodgdon and Jacob Cavaso also singled for the Wolverines, while Joe Bryant, Theriault and Drew Gosselin each singled.
