GORHAM — Sophomore goaltender Karli Portnoy stopped 22 shots, including 16 in the second half, as the fifthseeded Western Connecticut State University Colonials upset the fourth-seeded University of Southern Maine Huskies 12-10 Tuesday afternoon in a first-round playoff game of the 2012 Little East Conference Championship Tournament at Hannaford Field.
The Colonials will face topseeded Plymouth State University next, while the Huskies’ season concludes with a 7-11 record.
USM sophomore Jacki Kelly of Brunswick led the way for the hosts with three goals and an assist. She pulled the Huskies within two early in the second half, but the Colonials held on.
