GRAY — Freeport High School lost to Gray-New Gloucester 3-1 in Western Maine Conference softball action on Saturday.

The Falcons dipped to 2-3 and are scheduled to visit Greely this afternoon.

Gray-New Gloucester wiped out an early 1-0 Freeport lead with two runs in the third. Freeport outhit the Patriots 5-2.

Leigh Wyman struck out four and walked two, while winning pitcher Maggie Chaplin had four strikeouts and no walks.

Sandy Ricard and Zoe Adams each had a run-scoring double in the win to lift the 5-1 Patriots.

In Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Morse dipped to 1-5 and is scheduled to host Nokomis this afternoon.

Megan Hixon went the distance for Morse with five strikeouts and four walks.

Nichole Laggan, Niesa Ryder and Lucy Rawson each singled for the Shipbuilders.

“Great defense by the whole team … kept themselves composed throughout and did not quit,” said Morse coach Will Laffely. “We left two runners on base in the seventh inning.”

In a Mountain Valley Conference contest on Thursday, the Wolverines ended a threegame slide with a victory over 2-3 Mt. Abram.

Megan Corson doubled twice and singled twice to lead the Wiscasset (2-3) offense, which produced 17 hits. Heidi Pinkham, Megan Corson, Sid Morin and Bri Goud each singled and doubled, while Carolyn Footer doubled twice. Charlene Reed, Kayla Gordon and Courtney Curtis added a single apiece.

Morin earned the mound win with three strikeouts and five walks.

Wiscasset is slated to visit Monmouth on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
