St. Joseph’s will face Keene State and the University of New England plays Plattsburgh State on the opening day of the NCAA Division III softball tournament Thursday in Amherst, Mass.

The Monks and Nor’easters will be joined by Husson, which opens against Amherst. All three Maine teams qualified by winning their conference championships.

St. Joseph’s (33-7), the No. 5 seed in the eighth-team regional, is scheduled to play No. 4 Keene State (25-10-1) at noon Thursday. That game will be followed by No. 6 Husson (33-11) against No. 3 Amherst (34-4), and No. 7 UNE against No. 2 Plattsburgh State (31-9).

Top-seeded SUNY Cortland (38-8) faces No. 8 Keuka (21-12) in the first game of the double-elimination regional at 10 a.m.

TENNIS

NCAA TOURNAMENT: Bowdoin’s men’s and women’s teams each received an at-large bid and first-round bye in the Division III tournament, which begins Friday.

Bowdoin (13-7) is hosting a men’s regional and plays Saturday against the winner of a first-round match between Baruch (15-2) and UMass-Dartmouth (13-2). The regional championship match is Sunday, with the winner advancing to the national quarterfinals.

The Bowdoin women (11-8) will travel to Middlebury, Vt., for a match Saturday against Wellesley (16-6) or Mount St. Mary’s (13-3).
