FREEPORT — After scoring just two runs in the past two games, both losses, the Freeport High School baseball team got back into the swing of things, pounding out eight hits in an 11-0 Mercy Rule win over Traip Academy in Western Maine Conference action on Wednesday.

The Falcons improved to 6-2. Freeport hosts Poland on Friday (4 p.m.) and visits undefeated Falmouth on Saturday at 1 p.m.

“It was nice to start swinging the bats again after a couple tough games,” said Freeport coach Hank Ogilby.

Luke LaMagna singled and doubled, Kaleb Farmer singled and drove in two runs with a double, and Danny Burke brought home three runs with a bases-clearing double.

On the mound, James Purdy went the first three innings, allowing one hit and three walks with one strikeout. Farmer relieved, holding Traip (3-4) hitless over the final two frames with two strikeouts.

Nick Foye had the lone hit for the Rangers, singling in the third. Two pitchers combined on three strikeouts and nine walks.

The Wolverines stole 13 bases in running past winless Boothbay (0-6) in Mountain Valley

Conference play at Wiscasset.

Devin Grover singled twice and drove in five runs to pace Wiscasset, 5-3 and scheduled to host Madison today (4:30 p.m.) and visit Mountain Valley on Friday. Zach Ellison singled, doubled and drove in three runs, Jason Weatherbee had a two-run double, Jacob Cavaso was 2-for-3 and Cory Hodgdon doubled.

On the mound, Hodgdon and Eddie Stewart combined on five hits, seven strikeouts and four walks in the five inning Mercy Rule win.

Nick Anthony singled twice for Boothbay, while two pitchers allowed nine hits and seven walks with one strikeout.

LISBON 5
ST. DOM’S 10

St. Dom’s jumped out to a 7-0 lead and defeated Lisbon 10-5 in MVC action on Wednesday.

The Saints avenged a 6-5 loss to Lisbon in late April.

Joe Bryant pitched well in relief for the Saints, who improved to 7-3.

Lisbon’s Kyle Bourget knocked in two runs with a single, Dalton Dunphy had a run-scoring double and single, and Aaron Boyington a two-run single in the loss.

Lisbon fell to 3-5 and is scheduled to host Mt. Abram today.
