HANOVER, N.H. — Wiscasset High School and Lincoln Academy students representing Midcoast Model United Nations (MCMUN) attended the Dartmouth College Model United Nations conference in Hanover. More than 500 students participated.
MCMUN is a Model United Nations Team based in Midcoast Maine that serves high school students (delegates) from Rockland to Wiscasset. Active since 2008, MCMUN has a mission to provide high school students with a rigorous academic and experiential program focused on international relations.
MUN conferences are run just as the real United Nations in New York with many of the same officers and committees right up to the Security Council. Delegates have to keep to U.N. rules on procedure, represent diverse viewpoints and dress in formal attire at all times.
MCMUN delegates proved competitive at Dartmouth MUN after three days of grueling debate on the themes such as the Arab Spring, the Palestinian Israeli conflict, and the Libyan revolution. The delegates from Wiscasset High School helped MCMUN take one award in the Specialized Committee: Libyan Transitional Council.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
