TRENTON, N.J. — The Trenton Thunder hit three home runs to take a 7-4 Eastern League baseball decision over Portland on Sunday at Waterfront Park.
The Thunder have defeated the Sea Dogs eight of 10 times this season, including taking three-of-four in the series.
The Thunder jumped on the board in the second on Kevin Mahoney’s two-run homer.
With the Sea Dogs trailing 2-0 in the third, Derrik Gibson drew a lead off walk and scored on an RBI single by Jeremy Hazelbaker to cut the deficit in half.
Chris Balcom-Miller (2-3) was knocked out of the game in the fourth inning, allowing three runs on seven hits and five walks. He struck out two.
Abraham Almonte and Cody Johnson in the sixth each hit a two-run home run in the sixth to make it a 6-1 game.
Gibson again provided the offense for the Sea Dogs. The shortstop drove in two runs with a single to center that plated Reynaldo Rodriguez and Bryce Brentz, who was 5- for-5 at the plate.
Francisco Rondon (2-0) earned the win with three innings of scoreless relief.
