TOPSHAM — Firefighters from at least six fire departments responded to a fire late Friday night that destroyed a home at 10 Lovers Lane.

The fire was reported by one of the occupants of the residence at the time the fire broke out. Topsham Fire Chief Brian Stockdale said this morning that the call came in at 11:55 p.m.

The first fire crews arrived at the scene within seven minutes and found heavy fire in the garage area, where the fire started. Flames had spread outside the garage and were moving up the side of the two-story home from the attached garage into the gable and attic, Stockdale said.

Firefighters had to pull down the second-story ceilings to get to the fire, which burned the roof off.

The house is a total loss but Stockdale said many possession on the first floor, such as computers and clothing, were saved.

Two adults and two children were home at the time of the blaze. All escaped safely, no injuries resulted from the fire, Stockdale said. A minivan parked near the garage was also destroyed.

The homeowner plans to stay with family in the area, according to Stockdale.

In total, about 40 firefighters from six departments responded to the call.

Firefighters stayed at the property until about 5 a.m., Stockdale said. He met with a Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office investigator at around 8 a.m. Saturday, and said the cause of the fire is undetermined due to the extent of damage the structure sustained. However, the cause is believed to be accidental, Stockdale said.

The Topsham assessing office lists the home’s value at $193,000. The owner is listed as Lynn Elizabeth Labonte.
