THORNDIKE — Morse High School traveled to Mt. View and won 4-2 in Class B Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference baseball action on Monday.

Zack Groat singled in the first with two outs, and a Wade Hunt double drove him in. With Hunt on second, Liam McDonough singled to make it 2-0.

In the top of the third, Cody Hardin walked and Groat reached on a single. Hunt singled in Hardin, while McDonough completed the scoring for the Shipbuilders with an RBI single.

McDonough went the distance, giving up three hits and no earned runs. Both Mt. Views runs were unearned.

“Liam is turning into a great pitcher and has really stepped up,” said Morse assistant coach Rick Davis. “We will have to watch our pitchers with games every day this week.”

FREEPORT 2

Freeport High School came up with two solo home runs in the first inning before the well went dry, and winning pitcher Sam Kozlowski came away with a five-hitter in Western Maine Conference action on Monday.

The hosts fell to 7-4 and are scheduled to visit Wells on Wednesday.

Kozlowski twirled a five-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks to lead the 6-4 Capers, who scored three runs in the first inning off losing pitcher Dan Burke.

Jared Knighton and Luke LaMagna each homered for Freeport, while Josh Weirich, Pat LaFlamme and Connor Dietrich each singled.

Burke went six innings and Kaleb Farmer finished up. The duo combined on three strikeouts and two walks.

MT. ARARAT 3

Chandler Shostak gave Cony the lead with an RBI single in the fifth, and Ben Lucas completed the five-run uprising with a two-run double as the Rams came away with a KVAC win at Topsham.

Mt. Ararat (2-8 and slated to host Lewiston on Wednesday) jumped on top 2-0 in the first inning.

“We had a lot of chances to extend the lead from there, but just didn’t do it,” said Mt. Ararat coach Bob Neron, whose team has dropped seven straight.

Cony scored single runs in the second and fourth innings to tie the game. Shostak’s RBI single made it 3-2, an error allowed two more runs to score and Lucas delivered his double to finish off the inning.

Joe Ashouwak led the Mt. Ararat offense with a single and a double. Michael Schuman, Joey Van Note and Ryan Lathrop each singled. On the mound, Lathrop and Troy Frey combined on seven hits, five strikeouts and three walks.

Charlie Hallack and Thomas Fogler pitched for 7-4 Cony. The duo allowed five hits, struck out 10 and walked nine.

MTN. VALLEY 4

Jay Mills drove in the winning run in the sixth inning as the Falcons slipped past the Wolverines in Mountain Valley Conference action on Friday in Rumford.

Mills was 2-for-3 with a single and double, and went the distance on the mound with seven hits, seven strikeouts and three walks as Mountain Valley improved to 5-3.

Jason Weatherbee and Zach Ellison combined on five strikeouts, six walks and five hits in the loss. Weatherbee was 2-for-4, while Devin Grover and Ellison each singled.

MADISON 2

The Wolverines and Bulldogs finally dodged the raindrops to get in their longdelayed MVC contest on Saturday, with Wiscasset improving to 6-4.

Grover went the first six innings, with Eddie Stewart finishing up. The duo combined on seven hits, three strikeouts and two walks.

At the plate, Stewart led the way with a 4-for-4 performance, with Chandler Longfellow adding a single, double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Garrett Emery and Cody Sinclair both had two hits for Madison (5-5).
