BATH — Bernice H. Brawn, 96, of Meadow Way died Monday, May 14, 2012 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

She was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada on October 28, 1915, a daughter of William and Agnes (Robinson) Howard. Orphaned at 10, she was adopted by Murdock and Mayme Carmichael of Aberdeen Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

She attended Cape Britain, Nova Scotia schools. She moved to Bath in 1938 and graduated from Bath Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She also graduated from an operating room course in New York and became an O.R. Supervisor for 20 years. She taught Nurse’s Aide classes during World War ll and has taught several classes since then. On July 11, 1942 she married Stanley Brawn, and was employed as an operating room nurse for several years. She was the Bath School Nurse and the Public Health Nurse of Bath. She was past president of the Bath Nurse’s Alumni, Maine State Nursing Association, Maine Teachers Association and Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Bath. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Coastal Humane Society in Brunswick.

She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Brawn on February 19, 1986.

She is survived by her son, Bruce S. Brawn of West Bath, her sister, Helen Symonds of Chateauguay, Quebec and one niece, Carol Symonds of Montreal.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Riverside Cemetery in Woolwich.
