MANSFIELD, Conn. — Matt Anthonis went 4 for 5 with two runs scored and and two RBI as Western New England beat Bowdoin 7-1 in an elimination game at the NCAA Division III baseball regionals today.

The Golden Bears (35-12) scored two unearned runs in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Stephen Buckley and an RBI single by Jeff Schult. WNEC added single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings and two in the ninth.

Bowdoin (26-20), which stranded 12 men on base, got its only run in the bottom of the third. John Lefeber reached on a two-out error and scored on singles by Jordan Edgett and Tim McGarry.

Mark DiTomasso scattered nine hits over 7 1/3 innings to earn the win. Mike Lawlor escaped a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and recorded a save.
