TOPSHAM — Paul G. Blauvelt, 59, died at his home on May 19 after a battle with esophageal cancer.

He was born in Hackensack, N.J., on Feb. 20, 1953, the youngest son of Richard G. and Aline Blauvelt. He was raised in Glen Rock and Ridgewood, N.J. where he attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Grammar School. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Regional High School in Montvale, N.J. in 1971 and Unity College in 1974.

While at Unity College he met his future wife, Hedy Page. They were married in October of 1976 and settled in the Brunswick area.

In 1999, he went back to school to earn his masters in business from Southern New Hampshire University. He was employed at Brunswick Ford for many years as an accountant and at Paul Blouin Precision Motors as comptroller for the last 16 years.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s in Bath, where he served as Eucharistic Minister and a member of the parish council, for the past 28 years. He also was active in the Bath Area Knights of Columbus.

His friends and family will remember his sense of humor and dry wit. He delighted in playing with his children, grandchildren and his dog.

Blauvelt was an avid reader and loved a good discussion about politics. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of cars and loved traveling to car shows and the Owl’s Head Transportation Museum. He also enjoyed cooking and grilling and specialized in cheesecakes.

He is survived by his mother, Aline Blauvelt; his wife of 35 years, Hedy; son, Christopher and his wife, Emily; daughter, Karen; brothers Roger and his wife, Regina, Daniel and his wife, Ruth and Philip; grandchildren Eloise, Ira and Mabel Blauvelt; his dog, Cody; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on May 24 at Diagle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on May 25 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
